My mom cooked most of the day and I was her shadow for as long as I can remember. Naturally I took an interest in cooking with my mom from a very early age. We lived in the South where the meals were a fiest and the whole family gathered. Mealtime and cooking meant the warmth of family and I participated in creating that.
When the Easy Bake oven came out mom purchased one for me and I would bake along with her. After I ran out the packaged mixes that came with the Easy Bake oven, mom started giving me bits from what she was cooking and I kept on cooking until that little oven just stopped working. Then I graduated to the big oven and started creating adult-sized meals. I was in heaven!
We didn’t measure anything back then, it was a pinch of this and a dash of that. Today it’s still a pinch of this and a dash of that when I am cooking. While cakes are a science, I just have a sixth sense for frosting, pies, entrees, and appetizers. There is where my imagination and creativity kick in!
Cooking for me is a passion. I love seeing people enjoying the meals I prepare. I take great delight in my southern roots and enjoy mixing it up with ideas from other cultures. When I travel, I experience the local cuisine and incorporate new ideas all the time.
My first adventure into the catering world came about when my friend asked me to cater her wedding. I thought she was kidding, but a few months later I catered her wedding with 125 guests in attendance. That was over 30 years ago! I still enjoy creating beautiful, tasty food for people to enjoy.
